As part of the Alma Festival Madrid programme, the iconic British rock and roll band, Deep Purple, will be performing all their greatest hits in a concert on 13 June at the Enrique Tierno Galván Park.
Deep Purple is a rock band that got together in Hertford (United Kingdom) in 1968, pioneering the development of hard rock and heavy metal, which led them to play a significant role in transforming the contemporary music scene. Deep Purple's original line-up included keyboard player, Jon Lord, drummer Ian Paice, bassist Roger Glover, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and vocalist Ian Gillan.
The band released several classic albums during the 1970s, including In Rock (1970), Machine Head (1972) and Burn (1974), propelling them to rock stardom. Their best-known songs include the rock anthem Smoke on the Water, Black Night, Highway Star or Perfect Strangers. The band has more than twenty albums to its name and has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide.
It received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. In 2013, the British radio station, Planet Rock, ranked Deep Purple as the 5th "most influential band ever".
