The Spanish Golf Open, one of the most popular and most long-standing tournaments in Europe, will hold a new edition at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from 26 to 29 September 2024. Professionals and fans of this tremendously popular sport in Spain will once again turn their sights on Madrid for this tournament, which is part of the European Tour.
The tournament changed its name in 2021 to ACCIONA Open de España presented By Madrid. Organised by Madrid Trophy Promotion (MTP), the organisers of the Mutua Madrid Open tennis tournament, the tournament has once again become a major international event. The 2023 edition was won by French player Matthieu Pavon.
A historic course for a historic tournament
The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid is a historic course for the world of golf, welcoming legendary golfers over the years such as Jack Nicklaus, Colin Montgomerie and Severiano Ballesteros. By hosting the Open, it consolidates its status and reputation, as well as the city’s position as a key venue in the international sports calendar.
The Spanish Open has been held since 1912. It has been part of the PGA European Tour since 1971 and is one of the oldest championships in the world.
The list of eminent winners includes the likes of Arnold Palmer, Severiano Ballesteros, Sergio García, Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo and Jon Rahm.
